Now Online! Enhanced Debit Card and ATM Processes

Guaranty Bank recently enhanced our debit card and ATM systems to better serve your banking needs. One of the new features is the ability to post debit card and ATM transactions to your account’s available balance immediately. This is what we call Real-Time Banking.

Battlefield What is Real-Time Banking?

Real-Time can be defined as ATM and debit card transactions affecting your account’s available balance within seconds. These transactions will show up on your Online Banking account or be heard on Teller Phone at the same time. In addition, deposits to your account will generally be available on your ATM or debit card immediately. This is an improvement to the current system in which it can take up to five days for a debit card transaction to affect your available balance and up to one day for your deposits, checks, and electronic transactions to affect the available balance on your card.

Limitations that may cause Real-Time to be slow or delayed:

There are some limitations that may delay a transaction from posting to your account.

We are excited about these enhancements to our systems. Please stop by the nearest Guaranty Bank Banking Center or contact Customer Service at 417-520-0260 if you have any questions.

Debit Card and ATM Real-Time Processing
Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I usually could use my card and cover the funds the same day by making a deposit – why was my transaction denied?
A. Guaranty Bank has recently introduced the ability to process your debit and ATM card transactions by relying on the same up-to-the-minute account balance information that is used by tellers and other real-time processes. As a result, any account debits will immediately affect your available balance and your card transaction may not be approved if funds are not available at that moment.

Q. Sometimes I would get different balances from the tellers versus the ATM – will this no longer happen?
A. This new service is designed to provide consistent available balance information regardless of how you access your account information.

Q. I made a large purchase two days ago – why is my available balance still reduced by that amount?
A. Guaranty Bank will hold the amount of a purchase until the merchant has completed the processing of that transaction. Guaranty Bank may hold those funds up to three business days, or until the transaction was processed earlier. Any instance of a transaction that was already completed by the merchant and funds are still held by Guaranty Bank (creating a temporary double-post against your available balance) should be reported for appropriate resolution.

Q. If I make a deposit at an ATM, will those funds be immediately available for withdrawal?
A. Not immediately. An ATM deposit is subject to review before funds are available for withdrawal.

Q. Previously I could use my card and get more money than my available balance by using the overdraft protection - why was my transaction denied?
A. In the past, Guaranty Bank and other financial institutions would automatically enroll you in their standard overdraft protection program for all types of transactions when you opened a new checking account. Under the Federal Reserve rules, Guaranty Bank and other financial institutions must first get your permission to apply these services to everyday debit card and ATM transactions. To grant this permission and have the same peace of mind you have for other overdraft transactions, you will need to opt-in (agree). To opt-in, you may call our Customer Service Call Center at 417-520- 0260 or visit our website gbankmo.com and click on the “Reg E Opt-In button.”

If you do not opt-in, Guaranty Bank cannot approve transactions for everyday debit card and ATM transactions when you do not have sufficient funds to cover the full amount of the transaction in your account.
